In many European countries artists are crossing the borders of the traditional art world and playing a crucial role within the growing creative industries. They combine creativity with other sectors such as healthcare, social work, education, agriculture, justice and business.

What kind of responses are European training institutions and training programmes making to the rapidly changing landscape of employment and working patterns of today’s artists? What does this mean for European cultural actions, for education, for employment?

Transmission is a partnership of art organisations, training institutions, individual artists and networks across Europe that has been addressing these questions in the context of emerging practice. The project Transmission Art Education, financed by the European Commission’s Leonardo da Vinci programme, is a continuation of six years of European collaborative work in this field.

As a result there is an MA in Cross Sectoral and Community Arts at Goldsmiths College, London University and pilot trainings for artists in Austria, Finland, Ireland, Poland and the Netherlands. There is also a breadth and depth of knowledge of the changing role that the arts are playing in the wider community.

This website offers an insight into the achievements of the several partners in this project. Here you find the project’s milestones and examples of innovative practice.
